Anchorage is a winter city that loves winter sports.
We’re a city of winter skaters, skiers and dog mushers. Anchorage has some of the best winter recreation facilities
anywhere, with dozens of indoor and outdoor ice rinks, miles of cross country ski trails, mushing trails within the
city limits and three downhill ski areas. Twice, in 1992 and 1994, Anchorage was chosen as America’s choice to
host the Winter Olympic Games.
For all of its superb winter facilities Anchorage lacks a regulation sized 400-meter skating oval.
The mission of Anchorage Skates! is to plan, develop and construct America’s sixth skating oval.
We have established a donor advised fund with the Alaska Community Foundation to build a year-round outdoor skating
and fitness oval. The oval would be used for winter ice skating and for summer in-line skating, walking and jogging.
Your tax-deductible contributions will help support our efforts. Our goal is to raise funds for an oval somewhere in Anchorage.
